ICE Criminal Prosecutions Continue to Rise Under Obama

Friday, August 21, 2009

  • Organization: TRAC

The latest available data from the Justice Department show that during May 2009 the government reported 2,147 new prosecutions that had been referred by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
According to the case-by-case information analyzed by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), this number is up 18.9% over the previous month. These data suggest that at least through the first five months of the Obama Administration there has been no let up in the increase in criminal prosecutions as a result of ICE's enforcement activities.

ICE is the largest investigative agency within DHS, which also includes the Border Patrol (BP), the Transportation and Security Administration (TSA), the Secret Service (SS) and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
